History:Cardamom was well known in ancient times. The Egyptians used it inperfumes and incense and chewed it to whiten their teeth. TheRomans used it for their stomachs when they over-indulged. TheArabs used it ground in their coffee. It is an important ingredientin Asian cooking.

Cautions: Non-toxic, non-irritant andnon-sensitizing. Avoid use during pregnancy. 
Origin:India

  Description:A perennial, reed-like herb, cardamom grows wild and is cultivatedin India and Sri Lanka. It grows up to 4 meters (13 feet) and haslong, green silky blades, small yellowy flowers, with a violet tipand a large fleshy rhizome, similar to ginger. Oblong gray fruitsfollow the flowers, each containing many seeds.

Color:Colorless to very pale yellow clear liquid.

Common Uses:Cardamom is particularly helpful for the digestive system. It worksas a laxative and soothes colic, wind, dyspepsia and nausea, evennausea caused by pregnancy. It warms the stomach and helps withheartburn. As a massage oil or diluted in the bath, cardamom oilcan assist with: digestive system, coughs and be used as a generaltonic.
